UGA Cooperative Extension is a statewide educational organization funded by federal, state and local governments that brings research-based education directly to individuals, families and communities.

UGA Extension is dedicated to helping people find answers to questions related to agriculture and the environment, families & 4-H Youth Development.

Office Hours

Office hours are Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm/Closed for lunch from 12-1pm

Closed on Saturdays & Sundays

Thanksgiving Closed through Nov. 26th at 3pm until Nov. 28.

  • Feb 23 Vegetable and Small Fruit Production Training - Journeyman Farmer Certificate Program Part 2 Farming is a business. The Vegetable and Small Fruit Production Training course, Part 2 of the UGA Journeyman Farmer Certificate Program, is designed to help new and beginning farmers achieve profitability and business sustainability. The 8-week Forsyth County Extension course includes two new sessions: Cut Flower Production and Controlled Environment Agriculture. Other sessions cover: Soil Health and Fertility, Fertilizers and Amendments, Cover Crops, Crop Rotation, Pest Management, Seasonality and Crop Selection, Vegetable Propagation, Considerations for Small Fruit Production, Small Farm Safety, Post-Harvest Handling and Food Safety, Crop Plans, and Marketing. Classes are held from 7-9:30 p.m. on Monday evenings. A tour of local farms will be scheduled for one Saturday during the course (TBD). Your $75 registration fee includes a course manual, program materials, and light snacks.

  • Feb 26 Vegetable Production Meeting This program is designed for people who are commercially involved in growing vegetables. Come and learn about varieties, pest protection, and more! Dinner and pesticide credits will be provided. Please RSVP by emailing jacob.williams@uga.edu.

  • Feb 27 North Georgia Vegetable Growers Seminar The meeting will be held Friday, February 27, 2026 at the Rabun County Schools AgriCenter from 10:00am to 1:00 pm. Lunch will be provided so please register in advance if you plan to attend. There is no cost to attend. The Georgia Department of Agriculture has approved this seminar for Applicator Recertification Training Credits as follows: One hour Private Applicator credit CAT 10 and three hours Commercial Applicator credit CAT 21, 24, 27, 31, 32, 35 and 41. This seminar is being sponsored by Rabun County Extension, UGA Extension Specialists and in collaboration with the Rabun County Schools Agriculture Education.
